About Your Community Herbalist

Karen Darnell, EWCH, is a professional Chinese herbal practitioner serving Cave Junction and the Illinois Valley through Your Community Herbals.
Her work began at home. She first reached for local herbs to ease her children’s ailments, then kept studying as those simple plants proved useful again and again. She later received recognition as a master herbalist for work toward her own goals. For a time she kept Asian medicine at a distance because of worldview questions. What changed her mind was a basic observation: herbs help the body do what bodies already know how to do. Along the way she found unexpected parallels between traditions and stayed with the work.
Karen now focuses on digestion, allergies, menstrual problems, and emotional upset. She also teaches people how to use herbs to support physical, mental, and emotional comfort. Her line is simple: she helps people who want to help themselves feel better.
Her studies include the North American Institute of Natural Medicine, Hpathy’s homeopathic program, the East West School of Herbology (Student of the Month), Lotus Institute of Integrative Medicine, Mebo Acupuncture Training Academy, and G2C University, where she serves as Minister of Health and Healing.
Off the clock she does dog-rescue work, volunteering for Rogue Valley Humane Society, mineral prospecting, and sewing. She values time with her children and brothers and sisters in Christ. She lives in rural Oregon with two dogs of her own and one foster dog.
